The CFS serves country communities through dedicated volunteers delivering professional fire and rescue services to outer metropolitan, regional and rural South Australia. With over 13,500 volunteers contributing in excess of 3 million hours per annum to the safety of the community, CFS’s vision is to build on their reputation as a trusted, responsive and effective community-based fire and emergency service organisation.
The Government of South Australia is seeking a dynamic and appropriately experienced Chief Officer to lead the CFS through its next successful era of leadership. Reporting to the Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, the Chief Officer has ultimate responsibility for the management, administration and day to day operations of the CFS.
Additionally, the Chief Officer’s membership of the Emergency Services Sector (ESS) Executive and the State Emergency Management Committee requires active collaboration, cooperation and engagement with all emergency services organisations within SA and nationally.
As a proven leader in the emergency services sector, you will be able to demonstrate significant experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and a track record for providing effective high-performance leadership in a command-control environment. You will also have the skills and aptitude to provide strategic leadership direction and be responsible for the safe and effective delivery of fire and rescue services.
We seek a Chief Officer with previous experience in contributing to the evolution and leadership of emergency services of a similar size and scale to that of the CFS. The appointee will have clear executive leadership skills in emergency services, an intimate understanding of the challenges facing the services, and will demonstrate significant experience in influencing and driving cultural change to transform emergency services. A proven ability to effectively lead a large volunteer workforce, and to manage and influence key stakeholders to obtain the best outcomes for the community is essential. An attractive remuneration package and contract term will be considered for the right candidate.
